Emma - Stem Physiotherapy

Emma
Lowe-Marshall

Owner/Director/Senior Physiotherapist

Emma graduated from Bradford University with a First Class BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy degree in 2010. Since qualifying, Emma has worked in different Trusts in the NHS, including the Bradford Teaching Hospitals Trust and the Mid Yorkshire Trust. Gaining extensive experience in various settings, she worked on many ward settings such as respiratory, orthopaedic and stroke wards in the acute hospitals and in the community for the rehabilitation of the elderly and vulnerable patients, before moving into the private sector specialising in musculoskeletal physiotherapy.

From 2010-2012 she was the head Physiotherapist for Batley Boys Open Age & under 18s teams. This involved pitch-side first aid and first contact management of game injuries. Emma has a particular interest in spinal injuries. However, she treats people with a vast range of conditions and injuries. She also has extensive knowledge in neurological physiotherapy and still sees many patients on home visits and in clinic who have neurological conditions such as stroke, Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis.

Emma set up STEM Physiotherapy in 2012, treating her very first patient at home in a spare room. Her caseload grew over time, whilst she continued working in the NHS. Once grown enough, she relocated her clinic to a local gym and further grew her business there until taking on her current clinic, located on Farsley Town Street. STEM Physiotherapy & Healthcare Ltd opened its doors on 13th January 2021.

Emma continues to run the business independently and work as a practicing physiotherapist in the clinic or out on home visits every week.

In her spare time, Emma likes spending time with her 3 young children, taking them to their local clubs, walking with them locally and in the Dales, running , strength training and walking her 2 Jack Russells, as well as spending time with the family cat, rabbits, hamster and llama. Emma loves being outdoors and you will often see her walking her children to school each day.

James

James
Davenport

Physiotherapist

James qualified in 2010 from Keele University. He started his career working on the Wirral working in MSK outpatients and with the Port Vale youth academy football team for a season before working with Burnage Rugby Football Team for two seasons. James relocated to Leeds in 2015 and has worked at Bradford teaching hospitals in the MSK Outpatients department.

In 2022, James moved trusts to work at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary as a lead MSK clinician. James has a specialist interest in shoulders, migraines and pain management.

In his spare time James enjoys watching F1 and spending time drawing.

Haroon Ali

Physiotherapist

Haroon, qualified as a Physiotherapist in January 2021 from Sheffield Hallam University and started working at Mid Yorkshire NHS foundation trust the following month. In Haroon’s time at Mid Yorks he gained experience in Orthopaedics , acute medicine and musculoskeletal settings.

In January 2022 , Haroon started his first role in specialising in outpatient musculoskeletal physiotherapy at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS foundation trust. Progressing within his role to become a senior specialist in musculoskeletal physiotherapy in January 2023. Haroon has since gained experience in assessing and treating various acute and chronic presentations, showing a special interest in lower limb problems. 

In Haroon’s spare time he enjoys staying active within gym settings with a specific focus on football as he plays for a football team in the Yorkshire Amateur League Supreme Division.

Sarah
Roberts

Physiotherapist

Sarah qualified from Bradford university in May 2023, since then she has been working within Calderdale and Huddersfield trust within musculoskeletal, respiratory, and paediatric settings. 

Sarah has worked within the fitness industry; personal training and teaching fitness classes for the last 17 years. This is where she found her passion for the fitness and the mechanics of the human body.

In her spare time, she likes spending time with her family, running or in the gym.

Sports Massage, Lymphatic Drainage & Pregnancy Massage Therapist

Natasha qualified as a massage therapist over five years ago. She is passionate about using massage and manual therapy to help patients recover faster and reach their wellness goals. Every patient receives an integrated and customised treatment plan that addresses their individual needs. Natasha is skilled at providing Lymphatic, Prenatal, and deep tissue massages, postural assessment and Sports massage for pain relief and to help sore muscles recover faster. 

In her free time, Natasha more than anything loves to spend time with her family. A mother of 3, and a grandmother of 1, (soon to be 2), who she adores and spoils!

With a background in Psychology and Health Education, Susannah trained as a Counsellor 10 years ago. Susannah offers both traditional counselling or talk therapy as well as a more holistic style of trauma therapy. In your first session she will listen carefully to your needs and agree a way to work together. Susannah can help you take the time you need to reflect on your situation, with a non-judgemental and compassionate ear.

Susannah can help particularly if you are feeling anxious, depressed, confused or isolated, or if you are going through a difficult life change. She often works alongside clients going through a bereavement, divorce, or who might be adjusting to a new diagnosis such as Long Covid, Chronic Fatigue or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Adjusting to a new illness, injury or stage in life can be a roller coaster ride, with its ups and downs both physically and emotionally. Your feelings about yourself and your situation are also very important to explore at this time as these play a role in either helping or hindering your adjustment and recovery.

Susannah lives locally in Farsley with her family. The head of the household is normally the cat. In her spare time, she enjoys time in nature, swimming and dancing.

Gem is a registered nurse, with a background of 18 years working in mental health, disability, complex health and older people’s services. She has a particular interest in holistic health. Gem is a level 4 Foot Health practitioner. Offering routine foot care, nail cutting, corn and callous removal, fungal nail treatment, diabetic footcare. 

Gem also offers foot Reflexology alongside her practice to complement foot health, relax and re-balance whilst promoting physical and emotional wellbeing of her clients. 

Additionally, a registered nurse Gem holds a medically approved Advanced Cryotherapy qualification. Which enables her to treat skin lesions and remove non-malignant moles, using Cryotherapy freezing techniques.

Yoga Teacher

Hatha Yoga Teacher – Classes of 6 available at STEM Physiotherapy is a holistic personal trainer & class instructor. She has been a PT at JennBPT for 7 years; originally training as a dancer, she realised her path had led her to fitness where she started to teach classes and then went on to personal training where she’s found her true home.

More recently Jennifer has taken her passion for yoga into becoming a Hatha Yoga teacher. She wants to provide a class where her students can relax but also feel the benefits of connecting the mind & body. Her Yoga ethos matches her holistic PT values and the two help bring a more empathetic approach when working with clients.

In her spare time Jennifer will either be at the gym or cuddling her Cat Iggy!

Ear Wax Removal Specialist

Sarah boasts over 10 years’ experience in a GP surgery working alongside the nursing team.  She has spent 7 years specialising in ear wax removal after completing her training in 2017 at Leeds Beckett University. Sarah delivers her expertise via holding set clinics at STEM Physiotherapy & Healthcare Ltd and through bespoke mobile visits.

Sarah also collaborates with care homes to support dementia clients ensuring all patients receive the highest level of care.

In her free time, Sarah enjoys spending time with her children and pony, Sid, in the countryside. She also enjoys a weekend away in her camper van.

Alison Whittam

Counsellor

Alison is a qualified, insured integrative counsellor, who uses 
different counselling techniques to suit your individual needs.  Alison 
works with young people and adults either face to face, online or on the 
telephone. Alison also offers Walk and Talk therapy as sometimes walking 
side by side can be easier than sitting in a traditional counselling 
setting.

Having had counselling for a bereavement many years ago, Alison 
understands first-hand how valuable counselling can be to people’s 
lives. As a result, her passion for helping others has grown.

Alison’s approach is a relational one and by being compassionate, warm 
and showing humanity, together we will work towards understanding your 
challenges, uncover strengths and move towards your desired goal. 

Before becoming a counsellor, Alison worked in caring roles in education 
and in multi-cultural areas. She is here to support you whatever it is 
that has brought you to counselling and has experience of working with 
issues such as anxiety, awaiting neurodiverse diagnosis, insomnia, or a 
dilemma.
Together she will work through this with you in a quiet confidential environment 
either indoors or out in the fresh air, whatever suits you.

As well as working in private practice, Alison works for two charities 
offering low-cost counselling to those on low incomes as well as working

Rebecca
Dickinson

Counsellor

Rebecca is an accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy with 14 years’ experience. Her areas of specialisation include working with adults and young people struggling with relationships, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, impacts of childhood trauma, past abuse, self-harm, stress/workplace issues, life limiting illnesses, grief and loss.

She has also worked with children as a Play Therapist providing emotional and psychological support during or after times of difficulty. 

Rebecca graduated with a Masters in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy in 2013 and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. She completed a Play Therapy qualification thereafter. Rebecca has worked as a Play Therapist and Counsellor for various education providers and for young people’s Mental Health Services. She has also worked with adults within a charity supporting survivors of sexual violence, drug and alcohol services, well as within a Palliative Family Care setting and in more recent years with Employee Assistance Programmes. Her experience is in providing therapy to a wide variety of individuals from diverse backgrounds. 

Rebecca’s aim is to provide a secure, compassionate, and honest therapeutic relationship enabling adults and young people to help develop more emotional and psychological resilience, address barriers preventing healthy changes and live a more fulfilling and meaningful existence. Her approach is rooted mainly in Compassion Focussed Therapy with an emphasis on working collaboratively towards outcomes. Taking into consideration the individual differences human beings exhibit, she draws upon different approaches to suit the individual and their issue, including but not limited to; Emotional Freedom Technique (aka tapping), Solution Focussed Therapy,  Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Ego State Therapy.

Donna is a person-centred counsellor working with adults. She offers face to face sessions here at STEM as well as online and telephone appointments, whichever is most convenient for her clients.

She has a warm and calm approach helping to put you at ease, from your initial enquiry to meeting you in your sessions.

Donna creates a safe and confidential space where she invites you to discuss your worries and fears, however difficult they may seem. You can also make use of the creative resources in the room to help you explore and understand your feelings.

She is here to support you through life’s challenges and changes, including bereavement and loss, anxiety, low self-esteem and confidence, she can also help you to explore your neurodivergence.

Donna’s practice is inclusive, and she works with clients regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, race, ability, and religion. Her practice is neuro affirming.

In addition to working in private practice, Donna is an associate counsellor with Wellbeing in the Arts and a creative support worker. She regularly supports clients working in the creative sector.

Donna has extensive experience supporting those who are undergoing diagnosis and treatment for cancer whilst volunteering with Breast Cancer Now.

Wing Yan Tang

Traditional Chinese & Japanese Massage Therapist

Yan qualified as a massage therapist in 2019 in Hong Kong. She moved to the UK in 2024 and continues her massage business. Her signature treatment is a Personalised Chinese & Japanese-style full-body massage. Her technique is very gentle and non-aggressive, focusing on targeted acupressure points to address specific issues and promote overall well-being—both physically and mentally. She specialises in treating headaches, shoulder, neck, upper and lower back pain.  

In May 2025, Yan will complete her acupuncture course and become an Advanced Medical Acupuncture Specialist.  She believes that by using her unique massage techniques combined with acupuncture, she can fully help clients resolve both acute and chronic physical issues.

In her free time, she always spends time with her family, especially accompanying her son on various activities, exploring the country. She also enjoys watching pain relief videos and continuously learning to improve her skills, aiming to help clients stay free from pain.

Jen Copley- Forensic Psychologist

Jen is a HCPC registered forensic psychologist with over 10 years post-qualification practice. Jen has experience of working with adults, children, families, and the systems that surround them to understand and work through complexities that may impact their lives. This may include trauma, attachment disruption, neurodivergence, mental health needs and community influences. 

Jen uses a holistic, flexible approach to foster a trusting therapeutic relationship where clients can feel heard, understood, and accepted. Jen is particularly influenced by Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP), which promotes acceptance, curiosity, and empathy at the centre of all interactions to promote healing through relationships.  

In addition to her psychology training Jen has undertaken further training to build her clinical expertise; this has included Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Progressing Counting (PC) and Motivational Interviewing (MI). 

Jen has worked within CAMHS and education services, supporting children and their families to navigate assessment needs and understand EHCP processes.

Jen lives locally and in her spare time you’ll usually find her outdoors with her family, camping, hill walking and in the summer they like a music festival!

Jane is a retired nurse who worked in the NHS for over 40 years, the last 20 she practised as a specialist nurse in inflammatory bowel disease.  Jane feels very privileged to have had such an amazing career.  She now spends her time doing what she loves, which is being a grandma to 5 of the most amazing grandchildren.  When she’s not spending time with the grandkids, she loves getting out in the fresh air and regularly goes walking with her husband, Jim. Jane also enjoys gardening.
